St. John Chrysostom, Archbishop of Constantinople

Born c. 347; Archbishop of Constantinople from 397 until his death in exile in 407. A gifted preacher (his oratory earned him the name "Chrysostom", which means "Golden-Mouthed") and writer, he penned numerous homilies, commentaries, and exegetical and apologetical works. He is called one of the "Three Holy Hierarchs" together with St. Basil the Great and St. Gregory the Theologian.
