St. Macrina the Elder

St. Macrina the Elder was born around 270 and died around 340 AD. She was a disciple of St. Gregory Thaumaturgus, and she and her husband suffered under the persecutions of Galerius and Diocletian.

St. Macrina was the mother of St. Basil the Elder, the mother-in-law of St. Emilia, and the grandmother of St. Macrina the Younger, St. Basil the Great, St. Gregory of Nyssa, St. Peter of Sebaste, and St. Theosebia the Deaconess.
